INTERNeX New Zealand: Mount Eden Sunset

Hi there!

If you are done with your work or you have a free evening and you don’t know what else to do? Go watching the sunset on Mount Eden. We’ve done it and it was so beautiful! When the sun is falling you see more and more lights in Auckland which give you a great view over the city by night.

Mount Eden is the second highest natural point in the whole Auckland region. You can easily go by bus from the CBD district. Go to Britomart and there will be a lot of busses who will bring you to the volcano. You can take the Outer Link busses 274/267/625/258/277 and many more I guess. One trip costs only $1,90 NZ dollar and you travel around 20 minutes.

View Mount Eden

Last but not least, we met our first Maori’s over there! They teached us a real Maori game. First you have to say welcome to each other on the ‘Maori-way’ like nose – to – nose and then you have to do a game with your hand called Papaki Rere – translation ‘Flying Hands’. They were also singing during the game.

Imaging… you stand on a volcano in the middle of New Zealand, with sunset views over Auckland, doing Maori games with real Maori’s is pretty awesome!

Stray-Mazing Race

Last week INTERNeX New Zealand was invited to a networking event by our business partner Stray travel. As one of approximately 15 other companies we went to the Stray office, but there was one issue we had to deal with before starting the evening.

We needed to be dressed as one of the bus stops of Stray in New Zealand (www.straytravel.com). Therefore we decided to dress up as sheep from Rotorua. Well actually it was not really necessary for us to name a city because you have sheep all over the country, but finally we were three male white sheep and two female black sheep.

for more pictures of the evening check out our photostream on flickr:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/42564157@N06/sets/72157626693358976/with/5708694716/

We started the evening with some welcome snacks and drinks in the Stray office and some interesting chats with other companies from the Auckland Tourism Industry. The main event of the evening was the Sray-mazing Race through Auckland. The goal of the Race was to be the quickest team in solving funny riddle hints and succeeding in four different bar games. The race took place around the central queens street down and ended in the cool bar 1885.

Absolutely exhausted and sweating like pigs – we arrived at the final destination and from now on it was time for waiting until all teams arrive and the organisers of the race would announce the fastest two teams. In the meantime we enjoyed the big gesture of the Stray team to provide us with delicious food and an open bar.

Finally the two winning teams were announced and surprisingly our team was one of them. The prize was a all-inclusive weekend stay in the awesome Blue Duck Station down in Whakahoro for the whole team. We will tell you about this experience after the next weekend when we will be back in Auckland.

Hereby we would like to say Thank You to the whole Stray Team for an absolutely amazing evening with a lot of fun.

We hope that you all have a good week.

Cheers

An amazing weekend with the INTERNeX-interns

After our departure on Friday evening and the 2 ½ hour bus trip we settled into our awesome lodge and all got to know each other before a relatively early night.

On Saturday, our international group of 10 people got a full-time program of surf-lessons from our two instructors, we watched one of our instructors play for his local rugby team and we went on a sunset boat trip where we enjoyed the most amazing sunset and a typical kiwi Barbecue. In the later evening we relaxed with quite a few beers and played some pool in the lodge laughing and having a great time.
We had the perfect Sunday! After a big long breakfast we watched a local surf competition, where we got an idea how surfing should really look and then everyone used the sunny Sunday in their own way…hanging out on the beach, taking pictures or going surfing again. After a typical fish n chips lunch we started our way back to Auckland and arrived totally exhausted but satisfied and happy about this incredible weekend.

Thank you guys for a wonderful time and hope to see you at Rakinos on Wednesday!
If anyone else wants to do a surf trip in future, come and talk to us about it and we can book you on a trip, but remember there are only 3 surf weekends left.

The last weekend was really successful and awesome. Some of the INTERNeX interns and their friends joined me for a surftrip to Raglan, the surfhotspot in New Zealand.

The weather and the waves were really amazing so we had almost the best surf-conditions for learning to stand-up on the board.
