Ballet in New Zealand

Hey everyone,

How are you doing? I am doing great! Enjoying daily life here in Auckland whle doing my internship here at INTERNeX. At the moment I am looking into a couple of things to do here in Auckland in order to make the most out of my stay here. One of the things that I am very interested in is dance. Being a dancer myself, I like to go the performances of all kinds of dance, like modern, hip hop and contemporary. I also like to go to one mayor ballet performance every time when I go abroad. I already saw Giselle in Havana by the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Balanchine’s Nutcracker in New York by the New York City Ballet during the Christmas period and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake (the version with all men as swans) the last time I was in New York. So now I am in Auckland I can not miss out on going a night to the theatre to watch the Royal New Zealand Ballet in action.

Fortunately they are coming to Auckland (as they are based in Wellington) between the 30th of November and the 4th of December with Sleeping Beauty, a piece I have never seen before. So I am very looking forward to see New Zealands best ballet company here. It is also a chance to hear the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra playing the beautiful music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the choreography will be by Greg Horsman after Marius Petipa. Tickets cost between $37 and $140. If all these names say nothing to you, maybe all the more reason to see a classical ballet here in Auckland as part of your intercultural experience. So I am going anyway, so if anyone wants to join me, just let me know!

Cheers, Lotte
